Off the Rails in Alaska

Join me on a journey through my adventurous summer in Alaska – where work meets wilderness and every day is a wild ride!

Tundra Wilderness Tour

We had a furlough day in Healy on July 31. We took advantage of this and went on the Tundra Wilderness Tour.

The Tundra Wilderness Tour is an old school bus updated with better seats and tires that takes you into Denali National Park and Preserve to see animals and scenery.

It’s a narrated tour, and our guide and driver is Chris. Chris truly looks as if he walked out of the back country for work. Rugged and Alaskan as you can envision.

Right away we saw two Moose. They were so close to the bus that we could see how massive these creatures are!

Next up, we saw ptarmigan, red fox, more moose and some bears. We also saw some reindeer.

This tour lasted a little over five hours and we saw so many animals that I actually grew tired of seeing animals. It was that good.

Our narrator told us a little about the animals and about his life living out in the wilderness of Alaska.

This tour was definitely worth the time and money!

  1. Looks like you had good weather in the Denali. I’m not that many days when it’s clear like that so they say.
Altogether sounds like you are having a blast!
