Off the Rails in Alaska

Join me on a journey through my adventurous summer in Alaska – where work meets wilderness and every day is a wild ride!

Difficulties

There are stories to be told from the train. However, since Natasha died, it’s been difficult to get the stories out.

The days go on. The stories unfold. Yet when I have the time, my mind needs to disconnect from reality so I scroll endlessly through TikTok or instagram. If I’m feeling brave, I’ll look at pictures of her.

Right now it’s 5:20am. Darkness has returned here in Alaska for a brief couple of hours in the early morning hours. I woke up at 2am. When we left the house at 4:20am, we saw the moon for the first time in a long while.

We are on our way to the Portage Depot where we catch the train to back into Whittier. Passengers getting off a cruise are usually lowkey and cranky.

We will not be done with our work day until about 8pm. It’s a great overtime day. Tips are not as good as last year so I’m thankful for overtime.

Here’s to a good day!
