Off the Rails in Alaska

Join me on a journey through my adventurous summer in Alaska – where work meets wilderness and every day is a wild ride!

Check your Calendar

We return to work after two days off. Back up to Denali. This train is departing from the depot in Anchorage. This is a good shift in that it’s not a super early start. We arrive at 7:30am!

A little ways into getting ready for the guests, I mention to Derek that I’m glad the next day’s shift is a bus shift. I’m still not 100% feeling myself and my energy is low. Derek proceeds to tell me that we do not have a bus shift. We have the train. I disagree with him and look at my calendar. Already knowing he’s right. He has two different calendars. He’s organized! I, too, use a calendar. I don’t look at it until the day of is the problem.

I need to get my attitude right for the day.

I decide I’ll do my best. Take breaks when I can. And soon the day is over. Nothing huge has happened and it was pretty smooth.

I’m looking forward to sleeping. But first I have to get my clothes washed since I didn’t bring another set of work clothes.
