Today is our last day off. I slept late and took my time getting ready in the morning. A bit anxious about the official start of our season tomorrow.
I’m not anxious about bartending on the train. I did well last year and know I’ll do fine. I’m anxious about the overnight stay.
I never considered myself to be high maintenance. But I do appreciate nice accommodations.
The overnight employee housing in Healey is called The Homestead. It is also known as The Princess Penitentiary, Shawshank and other nicknames.
The housing is an old building that housed people that worked in the oil fields. The decor is circa 1970’s brown with dark, rustic wood and old carpet.
The problem for me is the shared bathrooms. The bathroom and showers are communal. I’m older and I’m not that accommodating lol. Sometimes I have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and I don’t want to walk down a long hall.
But we will survive. I am sure. lol
We have a furlough Friday and will be in Denali. That will be fun because we will walk around the town and shop. Take advantage of the warm fireplaces and tasty coffee.
Tomorrow is sure to be a great day!
First trip up to Denali on the tracks! Choo choo!
