Off the Rails in Alaska

Join me on a journey through my adventurous summer in Alaska – where work meets wilderness and every day is a wild ride!

Training Begins

We started training today. We meet at the library at 8am. There are friendly, repeat faces from last year and it’s fun to chat about everyone’s winter adventures. There are a small handful of people who don’t take the time to chat with us.

I’m bothered by this as I try to make eye contact and be friendly. Then I remember that not everyone is this way and it’s ok. I’m good!

We settle in for the corporate rules and regulations of the company. It’s the same as last year so my mind occasionally wanders off. I also play my word game at times. Because I can’t sit still.

I’m ready to be on the train and doing my thing. I function well that way.

When the day is over at 4:30pm, we make a Walmart run. This is not the “good” Walmart. Many things are locked up and it’s hard to locate what I want and I lose patience when things are locked up.

We head home to relax for the evening.

Tomorrow we have a shorter day since we are returning employees. It’s a short couple of hours picking up our uniforms.
