Off the Rails in Alaska

Join me on a journey through my adventurous summer in Alaska – where work meets wilderness and every day is a wild ride!

Fish Hatchery

With a few days off, occasionally I’ll post an adventure that occurred a few weeks ago. I can’t keep up!

June 6, we visited the William J Hernandez Fish Hatchery.

When we took an Alaskan cruise two years ago, it was August and the salmon were running. I remember how violent it looked. The salmon having turned an angry red color. Hook-shaped mouths. Several lying dead on the banks of the river.

School always made it sound lovely! It is wild!

The tour starts outside. We were there on a time when they were cleaning the outdoor areas and nothing was happening. But the river and falls, along with the ladders were enjoyable.

Next you go to the inside to view the tanks and to read about different types of salmon.

The tour was about an hour long and free. So it’s definitely worth the trip!
