Training was at the rail yard again today. We were sent to a rail car, staffing it as if we were on a trip. Here myself and one other bartender stocked the bar with the necessary supplies. Garnishes were cut and prepared. We each practiced our introductory speech and end of trip speech. We also made some mocktails and smoothies for practice.
Next we were treated to breakfast on the train, allowing for the servers and cooks to practice. I enjoyed a classic breakfast of potatoes, scrambled eggs and bacon. I avoided the reindeer sausage, which is a main goal for me while here in Alaska.
Finally, we heard from some of the local artists whose goods we will be selling. One of which was from a local mint. There were also two authors and one photographer. One of the authors is celebrating 65 years of marriage this summer! The other author lives on the rail line and gets her supplies via train (not our train).
It was a fun day for me and it felt good to be moving around and active. I enjoy the public speaking. Not a surprise to anyone who knows me! I expect to have some fabulous legs by the end of summer, having maneuvered the circular stairs many times a day. (See picture below). Shedding a few pounds too.
I made a list of things to make my life easier onboard. A small notebook, some highlighters, and a sharper knife to cut garnishes. As we are utilizing ride-share and bus service, I ordered these to be delivered.
Tomorrow we will practice again, except we will have lunch.
